Planning/choosing the location of your bench itself is pretty simple task but it’s important because it can influence some of the characteristics of your bench. Connect these with 4 or 5 beams at the bottom, equally distributed – if the bench is longer than 1m, the beams better be 5 and the 5th one should be in the middle. Attach the legs under the end beams and at some distance from the ends. Use nails or screws and glue to secure them well. Make sure all legs have equal size. If the bench seat has 5th beam in the middle, attach 2 legs there for more stability. Make and attach the back. The back should be attached after the other parts are assembled together. Sometimes it’s good even to attach it on the already installed bench. Just like the seat, the back can be made of 1-2 planks or several slats. The beams that stabilize the back can be longer and used to attach it to the bench (through the legs). Of course there are many other ways to attach the back but this one is simple and stable. Install the bench. Most benches need no real installation, you can just drop them anywhere. However if there is a soft soil in the location you have chosen, you may need to pour a bit of concrete or at least gravel in holes right under each bench leg.
